Lord & Saunders share Basingstoke spoils

Michael Lord (Meon Valley) and Kevin Saunders (Walhampton) shared victory in the Captain’s Charities Pro-Am at Basingstoke Golf Club on Sunday (25/7).

Both Professionals shot five-under-par rounds of 65, three shots ahead of Steve Cowle (Steve Cowle Golf) and Alastair Briggs (Test Valley), who shared third place.

Lord got off to a fast start with an eagle at the first and a birdie at the second. Despite dropping a shot at the eleventh he maintained his form and finished strongly with birdies at the 16^th & 18^th.

Saunders also dropped one shot at the third but offset this with six birdies, again finishing strongly with birdies at the 17^th & 18^th.

Ryan Alexander (Sherfield Oaks) had a Hole-in-One at the 17^th.

Rob Edwards (Lee-on-the-Solent) won the Pro-Am with his team of Neil Copland, Jackie Humphris and Nicky Penfold (123). Second place went to Mark Dowdell (Blacknest) with Darren Bartlett, Carl Vernon and John Childs (127). Third place went to Michael Lord and his team of Colin Hutt, Graham Adams and Elliott Coates (127).

Colin Hutt, Neil Copland and Jeff Bowen won the ‘What’s the Score’ Competition for not only correctly guessing the winning Team score but also the winning Pro score.
